The present scenario of engineering education is driving the students to possess an overall awareness in the field of their branch of engineering, this is creating a huge gap between industry and institutes, in my point of view, a student should choose an industry/domain in the branch of his engineering and start accumulating the knowledge related to that industry/job over and above the curriculum supplied by the university/board.
Steps to be taken to become industry ready:
*If an electrical student is interested in power electronics,
*Choose an application area like battery chargers (or) inverters ....,
*Decide according to your interest\capabilities weather you work in design \manufacturing \troubleshooting, service\marketing etc., in your area of interest.
*Contact people who are already in that job\industry and discuss cons and pros.
*Start gaining knowledge in that area\field alone according to the job\industry requirement.
*Start compiling the list of potential employers in your field of interest.
*Learn how to utilize tools\packages\methods necessary to make u r job easy.
*Join in communities available in social websites(orkut, yahoo groups....)
*Attend workshops, refresher courses, seminars, trade fairs, industrial visits, annual meetings, what ever.....
*Gather information about higher education/PG diploma in the area of you interest and list of colleges providing it, higher education(specilization) always gives an edge over other applicants
*Go back to roots and try to improve your communication skills, after all any person should be capable of expressing himself in a descent manner.
*All most all companies hire staff through a written test, so spend a little amount of u r time in solving puzzles, cross word, sudoku, jumble, don’t feel ashamed to open dictnory when ever necessary.. do all this every day.
So best of luck and be an industry ready engineer when you graduate. This will enhance your chances of employability.
If you employer is happy with you, you will be happy.
The above blog is my view and compiled by me with my experiences as a teacher.
